New Jersey & New York Birders,
I led a winter raptor trip today, for NJAS's, All Things Birds program. We
hit seven stops in the Pine Island/Goshen area and then ended at the
Shawangunk Grasslands. While diversity was low, numbers of some choice
species were incredible. Thanks to the fourteen hear
Rough-legged hawk dark morph at the turn around on the meadow brook pkwy

In addition to my previous post, my day was capped by 5-6 Short-eared owls
putting on a wonderful display on the north side of Oil City Road (Wallkill
NWR) at dusk.

Today, I intensively birded the Black Dirt Area of southwestern Orange County,
NY. Despite the relatively deep snow, there were plenty of good birds to be
had. I birded "the circuit": County Routes 6, 12, 88, 26, Oil City Road,
Missionland Rd, Skinner La, Maloney, McKenna, Indiana, Pumpkin Swamp
Hi all,
I just returned home from the NYC Audubon Winter Seals and Waterbirds
Harbor Cruise. A great day for a couple of hours of fun on the water, the
absolute highlight of the cruise came when we found a Red-necked Grebe
between a couple of jetties immediately West/Northwest of IKEA in Brooklyn.
