Add some and lose some. That was the kind of data I got from shorebirding
today on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.
The notable additions were another *AMERICAN AVOCET *making now 3 on the
pond and a *WILSON's PHALAROPE.*

Hi Everyone,
After trying unsuccessfully for the Baird's Sandpiper this evening, I
stopped at the Coast Guard area - saw the continuing 2 Common Loons (non
breeding) and female Greater Scaup as well as 4 Black Scoters.

The Baird's found a few days ago by the Feustals & reported again earlier today
is now being viewed from near the blind west of the Nature Center parking lot,
feeding along the Phrag line on south side of the pond.

The previously reported adult Baird's Sandpiper was seen again this morning. I
believe it was not seen between 8 and 9, but it flew in around 9:30 and stayed
for 45 minutes in the eastern most pond south of the blind between the nature
center and west end 2 parking lots. It gave much better look
WILSON'S PHALAROPE! Just seen on the east side on the north end of the West
Pond before flying across to the west side (north end).
Currently on the west side in an area just before "Dead Man's Cove." Being
viewed by birders on the east side, including Ed Becher and shorebird
aficionado Bobby Kurt
Anyone visiting the East Pond at Jamaica Bay. Please DO NOT park at the
entrance to the dike. Only NPS MTA personnel and folks with permits are
allowed there.
You are likely to get ticketed and I just saved someone from getting one.

Low tide this a.m. Highlights were a green heron, 5 great blue heron, two
common mergansers (young) (I understand they bred in croton river this year);
and on spit in bay a common tern, also 2 bonaparte's gulls and some
unidentifiable peeps.
