I spent a lovely day with Deborah Alperin and Janet Wooten in Doodletown.
Though there were not a lot of non-breeding migrants, we did see (or at
least hear) most of the birds we sought. Plenty of Hooded and Cerulean
Warblers, a singing Kentucky, which we heard but did not see both along
the road

Passing along: Charlie Roberto, Kyle Bardwell, Hillary Seiner, and Justine
Davenport found a Seaside Sparrow at Croton Point Park north of the large
gazebo by the main parking area. There are photos.

An afternoon of birding iat Hempstead Lake State Park on Long Island
produced another male Summer Tanager second year bird found by Bob
Berlingeri. And a first year male Orchard Oriole found by Bob Berlingeri.
Also 2 Yellow-billed Cuckoos found by Taylor Sturm this morning refound by
me. Blackpoll
It was a slow day both at Jamaica bay and Forest Park. Very unusual for Forest
Park was a female type Blue Grosbeak feeding along the railroad tracks straight
back from the waterless water hole, by a sandy area where there's a path
crossing the tracks.
A Cape May was singing an alternate-type
Yesterday Heydi Lopes, Keir Randall, Shane Blodgett and I teamed up for a "Big
Day" in Kings County. A paucity of land birds combined with fog, cloud cover,
east winds and cooler temperatures made for the worst final total that I've
ever experienced for a big spring day. My best guess for all
Just came inside after spending the last 2 hours (5:30 to 7:30) birding in my
yard. Highlights include:
1 COMMON NIGHTHAWK flying just above treetop level and making its way northward
in its usual erratic flight pattern
1 TENNESSEE WARBLER, first of the year for me
1 SCARLET TANAGER, another
Continues at 600am in the town of Water Mill on the village green Suffolk
county New York.
