I spent the last hours of daylight on the shore at Jones Beach West End today. It was not intended as a birding trip, but I still managed to spy some interesting visitors. The local breeders were out in force, with several young Piping Plovers and Least Terns observed and Common Terns still

I made my fifth and probably final Cupsogue trip of the year. Like every other one, there wasn't really anything to get excited about. And yet, I came home with over 800 pictures. Hey, even Herring Gulls do interesting things. Terns featured a season high for me 15 Royals, a site high for me

This morning I birded the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, on the rising tide. I was on the pond just after first light and covered the pond from south to north and back. The total shorebird numbers were just about 500 which is way down from a week ago. In all, there were 13 species of
