Early this afternoon, Ken Rosenberg, Alex Lees, Nárgila Moura, and Tom Auer
found a male TUFTED DUCK in a large, Redhead-based Aythya flock off of Twin
Oaks Campground on northern Cayuga Lake just north of Union Springs. The
flock shifted when an eagle came over and some birds moved south to off
Went to see if Orange-crowned was still around (no), but saw a raven circling
the south-east corner of the Metropolitan Museum around 3:05 then it headed
north up 5th Avenue.

The AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was still present this morning at the Inner Harbor in Syracuse at 11:00 AM. Easy access to the creekwalk from the parking lot on Van Rensselaer St. The Pelican spent its time swimming back and forth between the Inner Harbor area and the Bear St Bridge. Mickey
Low road by wine cellars are 2 chipping sparrow w flock of Juncos.

After sending this email I saw an iceland gull, also at the north end of the
reservoir in central park. It flew to the middle of the reservoir and I lost
track of it. Ring necked duck at the southern end.

A record 86 participants conducted the Southern Nassau County Christmas Bird
Count on 2 January, 2016, a pleasant early winter day. The intensive coverage
and favorable conditions yielded an excellent total of 130 species, above our

The 54th Captree CBC, 20 December 2015
This year’s Captree CBC followed an extraordinarily mild late fall season. The
weather on count day was good again also, and we tallied 122 species, well
above our ten-year average of 118. This was achieved in the absence of boreal
irruptive species this
There are two snow geese on at the north end of the reservoir, Central Park
NYC. Pretty unusual for the park.

The previously reported immature Glaucous Gull found yesterday by Patricia
Aitken continues at Centre Island town park. The bird was found on the Long
Island Sound side and looking east toward the start of the private road.

Lark Sparrow continues at the outer turnaround. With several Song Sparrows,
distinctive tail and face stood out when the jumped up into the scrub.

Pair of American White Pelicans seen flying west over the ocean at Jones Beach.
Seen from the crest of a dune along the inlet. Terrible distant photos taken.
Otherwise quiet: Pine Siskin, continuing Eastern Phoebe, and a scoter sweep are
the highlights so far.
