For the last week or two I've been having at least 5 maybe more Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds at my two feeders on my patio. I've never had so many. They are
mostly females and imm. females but a few are imm. males. I love seeing all
the behavior they are doing like mock courting and the constan
Saw one of the two Black Vultures in the same spot as before on Central Ave. in
Scarsdale near Scarsdale Ford. They must be living in the area. Also had a
Red-shouldered Hawk and common raven along with many Fish Crows. I don't know

I had what I believe was a Mitred Parakeet flying north along the Croton
Aqueduct parallel to Hancock Ave. last weekend. I didn't get a look at it but
have heard them before and using sources on the net matched the calls to that
species. I've seen the NYC flock once in the Bronx at NYBG so may

I just came home to a Common Raven sitting in the tree in my back yard croaking
up a storm. I didn't expect it to be sitting in my yard, usually they are
flying by. It was there for about 10 minutes until I guess the jays finally
scared it off.

You'd be right Mike. I used to work at the refuge when it was first formed and
did the checklist for it and Wallkill. They used to nest there many years ago,
but have not been seen there until recently and definitely not on territory.

I was at my friends home on Old Army Rd. this am and heard a Canada Warbler
singing down in their backyard which has a low moist area of trees and shrubs
and ground cover that is left to grow wild. It seems a little late for a
migrant going north and early for a southbound migrant. Don't know
I just had a Common Raven flying across in front of my house heading northeast
at eye level with my third floor apartment. I guess they are breeding
somewhere around Van Cortlandt Park. I'm on the northern border of the park.

Went to Bayard Cutting arboretum today with my buddy to look for the
Yellow-throated Warbler that has been reported there. Even with the windy

I went to look for the previously reported Trumpeter Swan at Nyack Beach S.P.
and was rewarded with a distant scope view south of the park along the shore.
I was hoping to get some photos of it but it was not to be. Also had
Buffleheads, Mallards, Canada Geese, Ring-billed Gulls, a Raven, and
I went back at around 4:45pm and was at the VCP Parade Grounds to about 5pm and
the Pink-footed Goose was there and easy to see. The flock was smaller than
this am and the Snow Goose was gone, but the Pink-footed was there, nice. A

I went this morning from about 8:45am to around 10:30am to the Van Cortlandt
Park Parade Grounds and Lake area looking for the recently found geese. The
2-300 Canada Geese were on the fields but only the imm. white phase Snow Goose

At 1:05pm today I had a Swallow-tailed Kite flying south along the Hudson River
low over the trees and field at the Untermyer Park in Yonkers off Broadway.
It's amazing that after wondering for so long if I would get a kite in NY and
thinking about it yesterday that I would see one today while

I was told about ravens nesting along the North County Trailway just south of
Rte. 129 next to the New Croton Reservoir today so I checked them out on my way
back from a walk on the trail. Low and behold there they were with three nests
on one of the electrical towers in the Kitchawan Preserve.

more and more. I had one in my back yard on Hancock Ave. in Yonkers this am
which is about a block north of Van Cortlandt Park and had one flying over
Central Ave. at the intersection of Hartsdale Ave. the other day.
Just had a female Painted Bunting at my work hopping around the playground
fence of the daycare business in the building. Unfortunately I lost track of

now? When I worked there in 05 they didn't but haven't been since then so
don't know if they do now. Was wondering because a friend just told me she had
a flock of about 7 there last year and got photos of them. She

Had the Clay-colored Sparrow and Orange-crowned Warbler this afternoon around
3:30 or so and got some nice shots of the sparrow. The birds were along the
edge of the trees on the parking lot side of the large field where the path
juts out around the trees and goes back. The sparrow was in with
Forgot about the Merlin that came though.

No Barnacle or Cackling geese today but did have a Common Merganser, 7+ Hooded
Mergansers, a Ruddy Duck, and a female Northern Shoveler in with the geese on
the lake at Van Cortlandt Golf Course. Some idiots with a dog scared the geese
off the fields soon after I got there so didn't get a long
I just had an American Tree Sparrow at my feeding station which was a new yard
bird. I've been expecting one for a long time. Surprised one hadn't shown
sooner. This was number 117.

While waiting to be seated at the Fountain Diner on Central Ave in
Harstdale this morning around 11am I noticed three Monk Parakeets flying west
over me and continued over the trees and disappeared. They were surprisingly
quiet for Monks. I guess they were coming from one of the colonies in

I was write, there were atleast 30+ siskins in the flock, so I went and put

Just had a Pine Siskin at my birdbath. When I went out to fill the feeder a
minute ago I thought I heard more than one in the trees. Looks like it's going
to be a good season for them.

Had my first nice migrants coming thru today. A pair of Common Yellowthroats
and a Swamp Sparrow are here now hopping around. Also had the first
White-throated Sparrow of the season with the swamp. A Hermit Thrush has been
hanging around too.

While out fishing today I had a number of hawks migrating through. Had
one Northern Harrier, two Red-shouldereds, a Cooper's, and two Sharpies fly by
low over Buckhorn Lake in Unadilla. Also had a Pileated and several flocks of
migrating warblers in the trees. Several Red-breasted Nuthatches
On my way home tonight I observed a female Yellow Warbler hopping around in my
lane on Lincoln Ave just south of DeWitt Rd. in New Rochelle. There was alot
of traffic at that time and I was able to slowly drive over it without harm as
did two other drivers behind me. I pulled over to try to he

On friday I had an adult Bald Eagle in a tree along the Susquehanna River just
befor the Morris exit on I-88 in Oneonta. Quite a beautiful bird.
