This morning before heading to HLSP, I did a quick walk through of Valley
Stream. A single Raven flew over carrying sticks in its beak. It was being
harassed by two crows. With all the Raven sightings going on in this area, I
wonder if this is indicative of a pair trying to nest.

Sorry for the late report, but this bird was a lifer for me and I needed to
confirm its ID as I was skeptical at first. I had 5 American Pipits (all

Met a really nice and terrific birder, Dave at Nickerson. He pointed out a
gull-billed and 2 roseate terns. Added bonus was a black tern I got in the
scope. Did not see my target arctic tern.

Today on Easter Sunday my mom, dad, sister and myself witnessed a Pileated

to the plains, it caught a goldfish and flew to a nearby light post to
feed. I was looking at some Eastern Phoebes, and a nice looking American

lots of downy woodpeckers, white breasted nuthatches, cardinals, robins, blue
jays, white-throated sparrows and chickadees around, no target woodcock.

I was looking for a woodcock with no luck, I did come across some other
birds though:
1 brown creeper
plenty of black-capped chickadees around
gadwalls
red-winged blackbirds
1 Nashville Warbler in the trees
1 grey screech owl in the hole

took a quick trip to we2, a single nicely colored chestnut Lapland Longspur was
seen in the median before the nature center with a group of horned larks. park
police then drove through the flock and dispersed the birds (and the birders).
time was around 4pm

Both Warblers (NASHVILLE and ORANGE-CROWNED) were eventually seen today
with some persistence at the preserve. They were spotted just north of the
Walker Street entrance. I stood by the abandoned air conditioner in the
stream and watched them feed on the cat-tails across from the stream. I
