I arrived at Captree around 12:10pm to a small group of birders already on the Common Ground Dove, which was giving good views. The group dispersed at 12:25 and I was left viewing the bird alone until 12:35 when it took off, flying up over my head and across the parking lot, eventually disappearing over the trees in the direction of the dumpsters/distant flagpole. I stayed around for 20 minutes and the bird did not return. On another note, I was able to see the Northern Shrike at Jones Beach at 1:45pm. The bird was offering distant views from the boardwalk behind the Nature Center. The bird would perch on the Japanese Black Pines and sticks coming out of the dunes, but sometimes flies down and out of sight, so patience is required. Real good day!JT
