I observed a lovely drake Harlequin Duck about 100 feet north of the parking
area at Orient Point. Time was about 3:15pm, 9 January.

Returned to Shell Beach for the third year in a row.
Last year it disappeared in January, after a very active weekend of duck
hunting,
We assumed the worst.

During yesterday’s Orient CBC, we (myself and Brian Kane) observed 4 Harlequin
Ducks (2 adult males, 1 adult female and 1 young male). They were among the
rocks off the point feeding actively. The tide was nearly high at the time of
observation.

Dennis Hrehowsik and I had a female harlequin duck fly in, briefly touch down
and fly out at the 37th St. Jetty at Coney Island approximately 1 o’clock
today. Bird flew East. People are looking points East.

I thought this resight information would be of statewide interest, and
beyond.
On 6 January, I managed to photograph a banded immature male Harlequin Duck
in the icy waters at Shinnecock Inlet. The bird was sporting a blue band on

(east of the ferry terminal parking area) at Suffolk County Park, looking
