BEGIN TAPE

Greetings. This is the New York Rare Bird Alert for Saturday, July 25th 2009
at 1am. The highlights of today's tape are BROWN PELICAN, LEAST BITTERN,
CATTLE EGRET, AMERICAN AVOCET and pelagic birds.

BROWN PELICANS were seen along the south shore of Long Island from the Jones
Beach area east to the Moriches Inlet area. The birds noted were as follows:
2 birds off Moriches inlet on Saturday, 5 birds moving west off Fort Tilden
on Sunday, another 5 birds near Cupsogue County Park on Wednesday, 2 birds
off West End Field 2 at Jones Beach on Friday.

Two LEAST BITTERNS have been seen through the week at the East Pond at
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Also at the East Pond a CATTLE EGRET was seen
last Saturday as was an adult plumage AMERICAN AVOCET at the same location.

Pelagic sightings for the period are as follows. From a boat south of
Montauk Point on Sunday 113 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 270 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 13
SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 1 MANX SHEARWATER and 410 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS. On
Sunday from Democrat Point, Fire Island, 1 MANX SHEARWATER and 2 WILSON'S
STORM-PETRELS. On Sunday from Cupsogue County Park 12 CORY'S SHEARWATERS. On
Wednesday from land at Montauk Point 74 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 1 GREATER
SHEARWATER and 1 PARASITIC JAEGER. At Cupsogue County Park on the flats
north of the main parking lot produced on Sunday 3 adult "Western" WILLETS,
1 BLACK TERN and 1 ROYAL TERN and on Wednesday 1 CASPIAN TERN, 1 BLACK TERN
and 7 ROSEATE TERNS and at nearby Pike's Beach an adult WESTERN SANDPIPER
was found also on Wednesday.

Two STILT SANDPIPERS were seen last Wednesday at the East Pond at Jamaica
Bay Wildlife Refuge and 2 GULL-BILLED TERNS are still being seen
sporadically around the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.
