Betsy found the first CALIFORNIA GULL that I have heard of on the river this season - an adult, seen from the Adam Beck overlook (Ontario) at the power plants. Also here were a first winter THAYER'S GULL, an adult ICELAND GULL, and a first or second winter LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. The FRANKLIN'S GULL was reported in the usual spot - the narrows downstream from the Lewiston-Queenston bridge. We also had nice views of the RAZORBILL between dives this morning. We arrived at the old fort in Youngstown, NY when it opened at 9 a.m., which may be a better time for seeing this alcid as the bird was close to us for most of the 30 minutes we were there. An adult LITTLE GULL was again seen from the Lewiston, NY boat ramp - this is a little downriver from the Queenston, Ont. boat ramp.
Three BLACK VULTURES were seen by others flying over Queenston, Ontario, probably not far from where Barb Charlton reported seeing two of them perched a little north of the L-Q bridge. Good birding!
