At eight this morning (Monday 11/28) I arrived at the Marine Park Golf
Course driving range, having failed to look there for the Ross' Goose on
Saturday when I spent all my time on the airfield. I found nothing but
several thousand golf balls and a couple of guys wandering around raking
them up. Despondent, and certain that I was doomed never to see this
particular goose, I made a complete but fruitless circuit through Floyd
Bennett field.

I am thankful that at nine am I went back across the road for just one last
look at the driving range, because the Ross' goose was by then there,
strolling gently out of the way of the golf-ball recovery tractors and
munching grass. There was not a Canada goose to be seen, just the Ross',
very much alone.
