I went down to try for the Moriches Bay Pacific Loon today around sunset. I saw a loon that looked right for the Pacific Loon from the parking lot at the end of Moriches Island Road. The bird was distant and the light was fading, but I had long looks at it in my scope. It had the defined color separation on the neck, no visible white marking around the eye, and seemed smaller with a sleeker bill. The probable PALO was diving around buoys 26 and 27. It was last seen making its way towards the inlet.
