After leaving Belmont, Pat and I headed over to nearby St. Charles Cemetery, to
see if we could re-find the Barnacle Goose. Sure enough, it was there, among
the geese visible from the main entrance on Wellwood Ave.

Subject: [nysbirds-l] Barnacle Goose at Belmont Lake State Park (Suffolk Co.)

I arrived at BLSP at 8:00AM this morning to see if the Barnacle Goose reported
from St. Charles Cemetery was spending the night on Belmont Lake. I observed
the Barnacle Goose on the West side of Belmont Lake at 8:15AM. Shortly after
that I noticed a Cackling Goose in the mass of some 1500 Canada Geese. Shai
Mitra and Pat Lindsay arrived and managed to find an additional Cackling Goose.
The Barnacle and Cackling Geese flew out at about 9:15AM. I have been to the
park previously at 8:30AM and most of the geese had already left. If you decide
to look for the geese in the morning it would be wise to get there at, or
before, 8:00AM.

I stopped by West End 2 after leaving BLSP. Highlights included eight Red Knot
with the Black-bellied Plovers at the TR Nature Center, an immature Snow Goose
feeding with the Canada Geese along the parkway, and a Short-eared Owl in the
dunes east of the swale.
