On my third visit to 122 Hillside Avenue on Staten Island I was finally able
to synch up with the long-staying RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD. The bird made the
first of four appearances within 15 minutes of my arrival at 10:00, and the
last just before I left at 11. An auspicious start.
My good luck

Today, late morning, I tried unsuccessfully for the bird along the highline
on Hulse Landing Rd., Sound Ave. (both east west of H.L.Rd.) and along Farm
Rd., west, into town.I then headed east on Route 25A to Route 25, and then west

Excellent views of the Clove Lakes Park Summer Tanager and Orange-crowned
Warbler were enjoyed this morning by Keith Michael, myself, and two other
birders. The tanager appeared around 11:30am at its usual spot, the dead
tree above the brush pile, north of the white stone bridge. According to
The imm RH Woodpecker was still present this afternoon where the Overlook Trail
meets the Ash Tree Loop. The bird was territorial of its favorite dead tree,
chasing
off a WB Nuthatch that attempted to land there. Late in the day seems to be the
most reliable time to see the bird at this spot.
