Just a quick update... Over the past month, Iceland Gulls have become a fairly regular event on the Hudson at Newburgh. The only exception to that rule occurred from roughly the 9th or so until last friday(1/16),when to my knowledge none were seen. Prior to that, we had at least 2

Two Harlequin Ducks -- a male and a female -- were in close to the most western jetty at Lookout Point at around 3:45 pm today; 2 Horned Larks were in the eastern end of the West End 2 parking lot. Not too shabby for a quick trip to the ocean. Happy Birding, Martin Carney -- NYSbirds-L List

Both Warblers (NASHVILLE and ORANGE-CROWNED) were eventually seen today with some persistence at the preserve. They were spotted just north of the Walker Street entrance. I stood by the abandoned air conditioner in the stream and watched them feed on the cat-tails across from the stream. I

Another interesting adult Iceland Gull was in the Jones Beach West End 2 parking lot during the mid-day today. Characteristics included a rather large, angular head, pale but not yellow eye, and blackish wing tips. To my eye, the overall size appeared a tad larger than the closest Herring Gull. It

Found a male Canvasback hanging out with small crowd of Gadwall on the rocks at the little beach at Pier 4 ruins in Brooklyn Bridge Park this afternoon. First time I've seen one here. Bright white body, with those fantastic red eyes! Seemed pretty tolerant of holiday scamps & leashed dogs on
