A quick trip this morning produced more birds than I've had at this site in
many visits. Nothing spectacular, but my first two White-throated Sparrows
of the season, at least 4 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, and a number of
warblers including Northern Parula and Common Yellowthroat. Across the
street
Birded the beach at Breezy and Tilden. Only bird of note was a single female
Common Eider. Just west of the silver gull club. Can't recall having one in
September before.

The birding was slow on a rising tide at Cupsogue this afternoon. Not as many
Royal Terns as last week, with only 29 seen today, split 16/13 between Cupsogue
Flats and Pikes Beach.
Shorebirds were sparse unlike last week where many were on the Hurricane Sandy
created spit north of the flats.
A marker was created for Swan River Preserve, East Patchogue in Suffolk
County. This is located south of the established Swan Lake hotspot. The
hotspot should be available within 12 hours. Merging is possible right away.

OBS: Robert DeCandido, PhD, Deborah Allen, m.ob. on bird walk starting from the
dock on Turtle Pond at 9am.
Highlights: 12 species of Wood Warblers, 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers,
Sharp-shinned Hawk, Bald Eagle, and first-of-season Dark-eyed Junco.
She's back at her favored perch on Buoy 49. Thanks to all the folks who've been
reporting and keeping tabs on the bird during her wanderings around the lake.
Good luck if you chase.
Cheers!

Weather conditions were pretty good for passerine migration over the weekend. I spent almost 4 hours each morning out in the yard to see what would turn up. Both mornings started out with clear skies and temperatures in the low to mid 40's with light north winds. BLUE JAYS were the most

Given the date and rainy weather conditions this morning, I again tried the
line-up of Floyd Bennett Field, Riis Park, Fort Tilden and Breezy Point in
search of Gulls...specifically Lesser Black-backed Gull. I had done the very
same on the 19th but came away with very little for my efforts.
