First of all a comment on the walkability of the East Pond in response to Sy
Schiff's earlier posting. I was able to walk the entire length of the pond from
South to North, and then from the Northwest corner down to the Cove with the
only problem area being the always treacherous NorthEAST

Joe Guinta and I (Sy Schiff) tried to bird the East Pond this morning and
barely got past the entrance. The recent rains have raised the water level
almost completely negating the recent draw down . Moving along the edge is a

Godwit at the north end of the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge
(GNRA) in Queens County. The bird is south of the second spit (south of the

While watching Peregrines at the Yonkers Marina (behind the Museum) I had a
large single tern flying up river.
I am not really an expert in Gulls and Terns, but I am quite sure it was a
Royal Tern. I have seen them before at the beach, but this was a first on
the Hudson.
