Around sunrise the Common Ground Dove was spotted near the
green buoy feeding. Further west at Jones Beach I did not see the Northern

An immature Northern Goshawk was seen this morning by Dick Belanger, Al
Scherzer and I. It flew right at and by us from a perch by the Ponquogue
Beach parking lot. Down at the inlet we also had great views of 4 Purple
Sandpipers that were feeding along the western side of the near jetty.

After spending over 2 hours at Cove Island Park enjoying the Fork-tailed
Flycatcher (photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jgluth_brb/) I birded
nearby Marshlands Conservancy in Rye for nearly 3 hours. I failed to find
hoped for Nelson's Sparrows in the marshes, but there was an immature OSPREY
Patricia and I birded Montauk and East Hampton, LI today.
The Gannet and seaduck show was spectacular, both during the windy morning and
the calmer afternoon. Highlights at the Point included 21 Black-legged

Hi all,
This morning and afternoon the COMMON GROUND DOVE was present at Captree
State Park in its typical locations. We saw it several times close to the
entrance of the park on the grass near the green buoy. It was also seen on
occasion along the north edge of the southern parking lot.

Just had 6 Brown-headed Cowbirds at my feeders, 5 males, 1 female. The bird i
described the other day was not there though. I am thinking, though it matches
descriptions of Bronzed Cowbird, it was probably a very rare dark female
Brown-headed. It would be nice to see it again.

BTW - - 3 birds that technically don't belong on LI - if you count
the mute swan's butt as a bird in the pict.
