While driving home along the Belt Parkway this evening I saw at least seven
large swarms of gulls (mostly Laughing Gulls, but also many Ring-billed and and
a few Herring), apparently feeding on flying ants. This phenomenon is expected
at this time of year in coastal Long Island, e.g.,

Bird was a no show through 715pm tonight, thurs, sept. 8. Adult Bald Eagle and
at least 50 Common Nighthawks were a nice consolation, though.

Richard Aracil, Deborah Allen and I watched the bird on a pile of large broken
rocks across many rows of track at about 3:25 this afternoon. Other birders
were present as well. To find the pile of rocks, face the fence, midway to the
end of parking lot J, on the attached map. Obviously, the bird

An amazing assemblage of shorebirds were present on Skinner Lane in Orange
County this morning the most notable of which was the continuing RED PHALAROPE.
At least a dozen birders viewed the bird during the hour and half I was
present this morning. I had a total of sixteen species this morning

Unfortunately, since I was on a tight schedule, I couldn't entertain the
thought of getting off the train at Croton. I had to be in Albany to do my
radio show. And, as it was, because of additional delays north of
Poughkeepsie (trees down on the tracks), I made
