Today I observed an adult Red Shouldered Hawk in Calverton near the
EPCAL/Grumman grasslands. It was hunting a disturbed opening of oak/pitch pine
forest near NYS DEC preserved land. I also saw the same individual this past
Sunday at the same location. Observation times were various, Sunday was

by Paul Gillen, after missing on my first two attempts.This Town of Riverhead
Park is at the Long Island Sound, at the end of Pier Ave, which runs n/o Sound
Ave.

The Mountain Bluebird was present and feeding from the snow fence at the corner
of Hulse Landing Road and 25A for about 30 minutes at about 1 PM today.

The Eared Grebe was present in the usual spot. It was best observed by
sitting on bench #7 and looking at Jamaica Bay. A scope was necessary. In the
same area were Horned Grebes and Bufflehead. Difficulties were the angle of
the sun and some choppy waves.

This morning, Chris Wood and Jessie Barry found a WESTERN GREBE on Cayuga
Lake, Tompkins County, Town of Lansing, Myers Point Town Park. This is
located on the East side of Cayuga Lake about 7 miles North of Ithaca, NY.
The bird was sighted from the NYS DEC Marina and Myers Point Town Park
ligh
I apparently am doing a little future birding, the Mountain Bluebird was seen
yesterday (Monday) afternoon at Hulse Landing Road.

After having no luck in the early morning, the Mt. Bluebird was seen again
early this afternoon along the line of snow fence in the farm field on the N/E
corner of the intersection of NYS Rt. 25A and Hulse Landing Road. It also flew
across the road to the field on the south side of Rt 25A, perch
