I mentioned three warblers in the Ramble I hadn't identified this
morning but had photos of. After looking at them at home, I think
they were all first-fall females: Orange-Crowned, Common
Yellowthroat, and Magnolia. Of course, the worst photos are of the
most interesting bird, the

Land bird migrant arrivals were plentiful this day, with some super reports
from various locations. Central Park in Manhattan had a good mix by all
reports, with the KENTUCKY Warbler still being found in the same part of the

in the coastal areas of the greater NYC metro area, visible on radar (log
on to your favorite online radar site) and with a telescope aimed at the

Parking Lot in the late afternoon. It faces NE and opens onto a very large

as low tide approached. Birding was slow at the East Pond north end with few
shorebirds. As reported the WHITE PELICAN and AMERICAN AVOCET continue.
Other birds of interest were 4 BLUE-WINGED
It must have been nice weather for flying last night, because there
were a lot more birds in the Ramble this morning than yesterday.
At Tupelo Meadow, a large number of female and juvenile Redstarts. I
often had a half-dozen in sight at once. Various other warblers
there, including
Starr Saphir's walk in the Central Park Ramble this morning had 45 species
including 11 warblers, with these highlights:
Osprey (flyover)
Eastern Wood-Pewee (north of Hernshead)
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher (Upper Lobe)
Great Crested Flycatcher
White-eyed Vireo (heard from Maintenance Meadow,
Tom Perlman and myself just had an adult Golden Eagle flyover (Meer) with
outstanding views at 12:44 heading SE.

Tuesday (8/28) the 3 of us headed for Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Because of a
rain delay, we didn't arrive on the East Pond until ~ 1300, where our 1st scan
