What a difference a week makes! Many good birds at NYBG but the quantities were
low and movement was nothing compared to last week. Most birds migrated either
before or after Friday's storm. The Saturday morning bird walk had 21 people
and we observed the following birds:
Pine Siskin-2
Song
A very cooperative Brant, found by Gerry Teal, has been seen since October
17 on the outside of the base of the east main pier in Wilson Harbor,
Niagara County. A photo of this bird and several interesting local rarities
have been added to Betsy Potter's revamped web site (link in the signature).
10/20/12 Long Lake (northern Hamilton Co.)
Our feeders went up a little over a week ago, and the number of birds
visiting continues to increase each day (9 species as of today). Evening
Grosbeaks began visiting the feeders on Thursday (10/18) - a flock of 25 to
30, and stayed the entire day.
I found a male Dickcissel off of Hurley Mountain Rd. south of Lomontville today
on the John Burroughs field trip.
Other highlights;
Licoln Sparrows
Pipits
Pectoral Sandpiper
Snipe
Bald Eagles
White-crowned Sparrows
Vesper Sparrows
Meadowlark
Horned Larks
Palm Warblers
Pine Siskins
Fox Sparrow
