FW: [nysbirds-l] Canada Goose Collar Report Correction

2012-12-12 Thread ROBERT ADAMO

I, too, can add to this thread. On November 9, 2011 on a farm field in
Mattituck, in a flock of ~ 350 Canada Geese, there were 3 with neck collars,
leg bands or leg flags on them. 2 of these birds were from the same banding
study in west Greenland, that is referenced below. The 1st CAGO (GIT)was
caught, collared & banded, and released on July 17, 2008. The 2nd (GP5) was
caught, collared/ banded/ flagged and released on July 21, 2009. As stated by
Anthony David Fox of Aathus University, Denmark, "We are thrilled when we
receive information on the current status of our releases, for it extends our
knowledge of where these birds stage on the way down to their winter quarters".
As Peter and Derek have projected, in addition to the valuable data you supply
back to the study source, being involved is exciting and fun - my sentiments
exactly !
So, if the next Canada Goose flock you come across does not contain any of the
rarer goose species, may it at least have a CAGO with a collar, band or flag
hanging off of it !
Cheers,Bob

To supplement Peter's collared Canada Goose report, on 12/5/12 I also found a
bird from this very same batch of 68 banded canada geese up in west Greenland.
Like Peter's bird, my goose had a yellow neck collar with the 3-digit code
printed in black (GA9). It was feeding in a farm field along the north side of
25A in Head of the Harbor(Suffolk), just west of Shep Jones Lane. This bird has
been seen in Greenland every year since it was banded in '09 until recently on
10/11/12 when it was reported in East Windsor, CT (last reported in west
Greenland on 7/24/12).
There are many geese out there. Pretty amazing that Pete and I reported 2 of
only 68 Geese that were collared in the same batch in Greenland 3 years ago.

[nysbirds-l] Collared Goose Report

Just thought it would be exciting to hear that a Canada Goose that I
reported last week with a yellow neck collar was collared in Denmark in
2009 along with Greater White Fronted geese. This individual hadn't been
seen since banding. I saw it in sod field on Rt 51 in Eastport, Long

[nysbirds-l] Extralimital - Little Egret and Northern Lapwing continues...

2012-12-12 Thread Andrew Baksh
Thanks Phil, like Mr. Guthrie, I too responded and got the same message,
but it's all good.

Re: your comment on the extralimital *"Little Egret"* Hyannis (Cape Cod)
and *"Northern Lapwing"* in MA. I just got a call from Gary Strauss who
reports that he made the "hard core" run and picked up both birds
yesterday. Kudos to Gary, as that is not an easy run and he did it on his
own. So for anyone who missed the Montauk LI Lapwings, there is your
motivation!

Fwd: [nysbirds-l] Canada Goose Collar Report Correction

2012-12-12 Thread Derek Rogers

Best,
Derek Rogers
Sayville

Please accept my amendment to my post earlier today: the Canada Goose was
collared in Greenland, not Denmark. The researchers are from Denmark.

The 1st CAGO (GIT)was
caught, collared banded, and released on July 17, 2008. The 2nd (GP5) was
caught, collared/ banded/ flagged and released on July 21, 2009. As stated by
Anthony David Fox of Aathus University, Denmark, We are thrilled when we
receive information on the current status of our releases, for it extends our
knowledge of where these birds stage on the way down to their winter quarters.
Cheers,Bob
