Five Rusty Blackbirds were seen gleaning the edges of the third
(unnamed) pond south of Grumman Blvd at about 1 PM this afternoon,
accompanied by one Killdeer.

Tufted Duck still being seen in Cold Spring Harbor in St John's pond behind
the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery.
The Barnacle Goose was in St Charles Cemetery near the Wellwood Avenue
entrance and a Greater White Fronted Goose was seen nearby with another
group of Canada Geese.

Hello, Kevin Nolan, Dick Belanger and I did this
years Waterfowl Census along Dune Road from the Inlet west to the first
Quogue Bridge. Some totals were 48 Common Goldeneye, 78 Bufflehead, 203
Common Eider and over 1,000 Scoter. Highlights of our day were an actively
feeding Razorbill by

drakes and 3 hens. My earlier suspicion of more than 1 hen wouldn't rest so I
returned to the site at 2:40.
The birds were much easier to detail this time around as they were spread out
on the pond, rather than a tight
During NYS Young Birders Club annual kick off meeting at Ward Pound ridge
reservation (Cross River) a Northern Shrike was seen perched treetop along the
road b/w "toll" entrance and trailside museum. Not sure name of young birder
who made this great find. Most in group were able to get
To echo the comments of Willie D'Anna and Kim Hartquist, it was an incredible
day of birding along the Niagara River near Niagara Falls on Saturday, 1/19. A
custom tour covering Lewiston, Devil's Hole State Park, Whirlpool St. Pk. and
Goat Island on the U.S. side and the Control Gates, Dufferin
Out and about doing dome waterfowl counts I just had 4 EURASIAN WIGEONS on the
main pond at West Sayville Golf Course.

grass, which made the hen search a bit more difficult.
