Hotline: Syracuse Rare bird Alert
Dates(s):
January 28, 2013 - February 04, 2013
to report by e-mail: brinjoseph AT yahoo.com
covering upstate NY counties: Cayuga, Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge
and Montezuma Wetlands
The bird was seen today at 0950 just before the entrance rd to field 6, but was
not there when I returned from my walk at 1220. It had relocated to the field
in front of the park office adjacent to parking lot 1. It was being harassed by
the other geese at both locations.

A gray ghost is a male Northern Harrier for those who are confused.
They represent a small fraction of all adult NoHarriers -- someone else may
chime in with more precise numbers.

I led my weekly Winter Eco-Cruise for NYC Audubon yesterday, and we had a great
day. In addition to the ever-popular Harbor Seals, we spotted Great and
Double-crested Cormorants on Governor's Island; Red-throated Loon, Gadwall,
Black Duck, Bufflehead, and Red-breasted Merganser in Erie Basin;
Around 9:00AM this morning a male yellow-headed Blackbird was briefly seen
feeding on the ground in a large blackbird flock east of Rt 25 and Edward's
Ave. Flock has moved west of Edward's Ave.
