Today Bob Adamo and I met at the North Fork Preserve for some afternoon
birding. We spotted:
Glossy Ibis
Northern Pintails
Blue-Winged Teal
Red-tailed Hawks
Osprey
Male Kestrel
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Rough-winged Swallow
Barn Swallows
Carolina Wren
Blue-gray
Date: April 20, 2013
Location: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park
The BBG birding class saw 48 species. The highlights were: Pine Warbler,
Yel.Rumped Warbler, Palm Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Blue-headed Vireo,
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 4 woodpecker species, Hermit Thrush, and Brown
As of 5:15 p.m. both ruffs were visible in the large pool to the left of the
channel that runs straight out from the dock affording great views through the
scope..

While out doing yard work, my wife and I were treated to quite a show in
our backyard this afternoon in northern Yorktown Heights, NY.
A single pileated called nearby, then an answering call from much further
away. A few minutes later we had a pair of pileated woodpeckers doing a
short vocal

A WHITE EYED VIREO highlighted the Saturday morning bird walk at NYBG.
Warblers were abundant as were Blue Gray Gnatcatchers.

The Yellow-throated Warbler continues, now singing loudly. Also, Pine, Palm,
Yellow-rumped, Black-and-white and FOS Yellow Warbler. A nice start for the
migration season.
