RE:[nysbirds-l] [GeneseeBirds-L] Three Marbled Godwits - Dunkirk Harbor

2013-07-14 Thread Willie D'Anna and Betsy Potter
Another update from Peter. It turns out that there was a WILLET with the
three GODWITS at the mouth of the Cattaraugus Creek. However, they all got
up high and flew northeast toward Buffalo.

Peter Yoerg has just provided an update on the MARBLED GODWITS. They flew
northeast from Dunkirk Harbor perhaps an hour ago. He has relocated them
just northeast of the mouth of Cattaraugus Creek. This is just inside of
Erie County. He is looking from the pier on the southwest side of the creek
mouth. They are several hundred yards distant.

Good birding!

Willie

[nysbirds-l] Marine Nature Study Area, Oceanside

2013-07-14 Thread syschiff
MNSA, Oceanside, 14 July.

Just after low tide; hot and sultry this morning. A beginning of shorebird
movement coupled with some visible marsh breeders. Today there was a KILLDEER,
LEAST and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, GREATER YELLOWLEGS and WILLET. (also,
Short-billed Dowitchers yesterday).

There were 2 calling CLAPPER RAILS, 3 SALTMARSH SPARROWS and 1 SEASIDE SPARROW.
All the sparrows were scattered, singing and visible on high perches in the
marsh.

The OSPREYS have fledged but return to the nest platform and are still being
fed.. A phalanx of photographers were out capturing images of adults carrying
fish..
