Today, between ~ 0845 & 1025, I was one of 10 gawkers (the # being fluid,
due to comings and goings). Upon arrival, I found 4 N.J.birders, who had
already found, what they referred to as "a white goose". They helped me get
on it, but couldn't get me on the G. White-fronted Goose they found a short

I spent about an hour in the area near Turtle Cove, including in the
woods at the edge of the golf driving range (still snowed-over), &
eventually located 3 Red-headed Woodpeckers, two in near-full-adult

Watching the Pileated Woodpecker back in the maple tree in my back yard as i
write this. Pretty nice yard bird to have. I presume it's nesting in Van
Cortlandt Park since that's right next door to me.

At Verplank pier had my first long tailed duck on the river side of Westchester
county in quite a few years. The number of bald eagles perched, soaring and
riding the ice floes on the tide (which was heading north) at George's island,
verplank pier, and a bit further north at Charles point
2 Pink-footed Geese (both at opposite ends of large fields, 1 east and 1 west)
1 Ross's Goose
1 Greater White-fronted Goose
3000-4000 Canada Geese
Birders are viewing from several carnage points mainly from Reeve's and Sound
Ave. Ken and Sue Fuestel had one of the Pink foots from Roanoke and
Greater white fronted remains in same flock found earlier by Bill, Andy and
Jennifer from nj

There's currently a Snowy Owl sitting on the Douglaston pier (east side of
Little Neck Bay, Queens). The gate is locked, so nobody should be bothering
it (and it's safe to report) and it will stick around a while.
