Today, from 0845 to 1125, I walked the above's woods and fields, filling in
some of the blanks, that permeate my seasonal "wish-list". FOS species
included: Gray-cheeked Thrush; Blue-winged Warbler; Chestnut-sided Warbler;
Prairie Warbler; Scarlet Tanager and Baltimore Oriole.

A male Black-backed Woodpecker was foraging on a dead snag late this
afternoon on the Northville-Placid Trail in Long Lake. I captured several
videos of the foraging behavior and posted a couple short clips of the
woodpecker eating the larvae of

This morning I birded Alley Pond followed by Oakland Lake. Good number of
passerines but low diversity. Many black-and-white and yellow-rumped warblers,
a northern waterthrush (along the edge of the pond -where else!), a few
ovenbirds and black-throated blue warblers, one veery and wood thrush,
The previously reported Black-necked Stilt is still present at the Goethals
Pond in Staten Is. It appeared at 4:10 PM but more toward the back center of
the pond and walked east. I'm so glad I saw it as this has been a nemesis bird
for me for NYS since I started birding!

Glorious morning in West Hills County Park, or as I call it, the Roof of Long
Island. A dozen species of warblers plus 11 other assorted species. The best
looks were at the trailhead in the thin air high atop Jayne's Hill (elev. 400
ft.), where the birds were nearly at eye level, and at the

The excellent birding conditions in Central Park continue. This is the
seventh day in a row that the birding has been good to excellent. The NYC
Audubon Wednesday mornings migration walks saw 55 species. The highlight were:
Warblers ( 15 species); Nashville, Parula,
Hempstead Lake SP 7 May
A slow day, but the CERULEAN WARBLER continues in the same place.
