Spent about 3.5 hours (12:15-3:45) searching for the previously reported empid
in Prospect Park, Brooklyn but came up empty. Rob Jett joined the search for 2+
hours.

Just went out to try to find this bird. Several of us got a brief but good look
at what we think is the bird being reported. Fairly certain it is a rusty
blackbird.

I relocated the Prospect Park empid this morning in the same location it
was seen yesterday above Lamppost 249 at the SW corner of Lookout Hill. The
bird was actively feeding and I was able to get photos that should rule out
Hammond's Flycatcher. I have added them to the gallery with yesterday's

Arrived 5 minutes too late and wasn't invited to breakfast of raw squab. All of
us who missed the dove today saw the last one seen at Captree.
Consolation prizes: 5 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS on lot, WOODCOCK at the
turnaround, GREAT HORNED OWL (it flew off with Crows

I just arrived at Jones Beach West End, only to learn that the Common Ground
Dove was apparently taken by a Merlin. Sam Janszzo, who discovered it
yesterday, and other birders saw the Merlin stoop to the vicinity of the dove
and fly off carrying a bird. An hour of search since then was

For those of you (especially anyone traveling from afar) thinking of trying
for the Common Ground-Dove, you might want to hold off for another update.
I received intel that the bird could have been a fatality. The result of a
hungry Merlin strafing a feeding flock if birds that included the COGD.
