An Adult Bald Eagle (which is part of an actively nesting pair) spent a
good amount of time perched near the nest today along the South Shore of
Long Island (location undisclosed for now). After awhile it moved to a
perch a bit further from the nest - only for some Osprey to show which then
On our way back to Manhattan, Gunnel Rydstrom and I (Peter Post) stopped by
Greenbrook Sanctuary on the NJ Palisades. At the feeders we found and
photographed a gynandromorph House Finch: male on the right side, female on the
left side.
Also at the feeders was a bright plumaged singing male
Having not birded for a few days, I hauled myself out to Breezy Point
yesterday for a Piping Plover survey. Then, proceeded to bird several
spots, continuing today all in Queens. The highlights are as follows:

This is a belated post, but not of any rarities. On Friday I checked the
ponds between the nature center and West End 2 at Jones Beach state park.
As I approached I noticed a lot of Green-winged Teal and Wood Duck in the
air with the other usual expected ducks (Black, Shoveler and Mallards).
Just saw first ones here on Long Island today at noon

Hempstead Lake sp 29 March
I stopped by before lunch on a sunny but cold day. Still, there must have been
a hatch as South Pond was covered with a dozen+ TREE SWALLOWS hawking along
with a number of EASTERN PHOEBES along side of them. Altogether, there must
have been at least 40-50 if not more
Having not birded for a few days, I hauled myself out to Breezy Point
yesterday for a Piping Plover survey. Then, proceeded to bird several
