I just received a note from Evan Cutler that he's spotted a Virginia Rail, last seen tonight just before 6:30pm, in the shrubbery on the northwest corner of 6th Ave. and 49th St. across from 30 Rockefeller Center (30 Rock). It appears to be healthy and feeding in the patch. This is the wiki page

While lake-watching in Wilson, Niagara County, this morning, a PURPLE SANDPIPER landed on the pier. Unfortunately, it did not stay long enough for a photo though I had a good look. This is the earliest Purple Sandpiper I have ever seen in the region, and amazingly, the first I have ever seen on
