Ed Becher and I spent a day in Suffolk County catching up on the reported
rarities.
An early morning stop at Belmont Lake produced the elusive Barnacle Goose
already cued up by Taylor Sturm. A stop at nearby Elda Lake produced a
roosting Greater White-fronted Goose but not the 3 Ross's Geese from

The Two previously reported Glaucous Gulls have been joined by 3 Juvenile
Iceland Gulls. The north pond west of Foxglove Cir contains 1 Iceland Gull. The
next pond west of there had 2 Glaucous Gulls and 2 Iceland Gull. Finally the
next pond west of the 2nd contained 1 Iceland Gull. All observed

I just watched 3 Sandhill Cranes flying SW over Yonkers in the area between
I-87 and the Saw Mill River Parkway. Before I lifted up my binos I
initially thought they were swans or a Great Blue Heron based on size but
when I saw them through the binoculars their extended neck, longer and
