[nysbirds-l] Central Park, NYC 8/21 - Golden-winged Warbler, etc.

2018-08-21 Thread Tom Fiore
Tuesday, 21 August, 2018
Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City

A Golden-winged Warbler was among the migrants found in the park’s Ramble area
today; the latter esp. in the vicinity of the small stream there known as the
Gill, & just to the north of that; more than a dozen other American warbler
species were also being seen this day in Central Park including Worm-eating.
The Golden-winged may be the same individual as found in the same general area
a few days ago, still present in the Ramble.

Also turning up now are more flyctachers, including some in the genus
Empidonax, & as
expected the flight of southbound Eastern Kingbirds continue at a good pace.
Also as
expected by this date & with the recent weather patterns, in many parts of the
northeast,
Common Nighthawks are on the move, headed towards their wintering lands.

[nysbirds-l] Breezy Point Marbled Godwit - yes

2018-08-21 Thread Pepaul
Since the last report was a “no” report, I thought I’d write to say that the
MAGO continues in with the oystercatcher flock. Also 5 Red Knots, 1 Royal Tern
flyby, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, and generally low shorebird numbers, but
decent diversity (12 species).

Good birding,
Tripper

[nysbirds-l] Marbled Godwit Continues at Cupsogue Co. Park (Suffolk Co.)

2018-08-21 Thread Ken F
Present at various locations on the mudflats east of Moriches Inlet late this
morning on an incoming tide. Shorebirding was poor at Cupsogue in general,
with poor numbers and variety. Before heading to Cupsogue we birded the farm
fields in Riverhead. We observed Black-bellied Plover, Semipalmated Plover,
Killdeer, and Least Sandpiper, but no Buff-breasted, Baird’s, or American
Golden Plover. Perhaps the approaching cold front will bring them in on
Thursday.

Cheers,

Ken & Sue Feustel

[nysbirds-l] Setauket - Stone Bridge Nighthawk Watch

2018-08-21 Thread JOHN TURNER
Four Harbors Audubon Society kicked off the 2018 field season for the
Nighthawk Watch at the Stone Bridge at Frank Melville Park with a Power
Point presentation yesterday at the Red Barn in the Park on the "what",
"why", "where", "when", and "how" of the Watch. Many of the thirty-five
or so participants then walked to the bridge to look for nighthawks. We
had 21 nighthawks pass by, all coming from the south, with thirteen
breaking west while a flock of eight broke east. Lots of Chimney Swifts
as well.

The Stone Bridge Watch will officially kick off next Monday (8/27) at
5:30, the same date as last year. All are welcome!

Re: [nysbirds-l] Cattle Egret continues at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn (NYC)

2018-08-21 Thread Gus Keri

It had been moving toward Dale Ave, east of Cypress. It is amazing
how mowers are not bothering it. People with mowers are 30 to 40 feet away. I
guess the Egret enjoying the food left by the mowing process.Sent using Zoho
