[nysbirds-l] Whimbrel irruption year

2018-09-09 Thread Joshua Malbin
We're having a bumper crop this year. I saw two today, one flying east to
west past Coney Island and a second at Plumb Beach. These are my 8th and
9th sightings of the species in Brooklyn for the year, and in normal years
I see it maybe once. Two of those sightings involved multiple individuals,
five one time and three the other.

[nysbirds-l] Croton Point

2018-09-09 Thread Larry Trachtenberg
Walking east side of landfill now. There seem to be at least 20 kestrels. On
every post, as well as on ground, tree branches, kiting. No idea how many on
entire landfill. Two harriers too.

[nysbirds-l] Hudsonian Godwits JBWR Queens

2018-09-09 Thread d Futuyma
Two Hudsonian Godwits, presumably lingering from last weekend, are at Dead
Man’s Cove, visible by scope from NW corner s East Pond.
Earlier? A Buff-breasted Sandpiper briefly visited SE corner, but few up and
eastward
