A quick late-afternoon walk across the grassland revealed at least seven
Eastern Meadowlarks; a tight-knit group of five Horned Larks foraging on
the newly turned earth (one step in a major restoration project to
eradicate invasives and re-plant native grasses); and a restless flock of
perhaps 20 A
I saw a female Painted Bunting at the end of the day today on the edge of the
grassy area at the north end of the Visitor Center parking lot. The coordinates
are 40.617719, -73.824810. I was able to get a couple of mediocre pictures
before it flew into the bushes. I was not able to relocate it a

The Central Park Turtle Pond area is expected to be accessible, though you
likely will have to go under one of the park's east-side bridges to avoid
crossing the park's East Drive, which will host the marathon, and to avoid
the dedicated marathon areas on the west side of the park.
As for the Purp
I'd like to drive down and look for the bird today. But today is the NYC
Marathon! Would it be best to wait and come down another day? Could I get
parking? Could I even walk close to the bird?
