Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 

November 25

YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER







Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)






     11/26: 5 SANDHILL CRANEs were seen from Carncross Road.

     11/27: A rare for our area WHITE- EYED VIREO was seen on Armitage Road at 
the Clyde River.

     11/30: 41 SANDHILL CRANES were counted at Knox-Marsellus Marsh.







Onondaga County






     11/27: A late FOX SPARROW was see on the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake.

     11/29: 3 BLACK SCOTERS and 29 RED-THROATED LOONS were seen on Onondaga 
Lake from the West Shore Trail.

     11/30; 14 RED-THROATED LOONS were still on Onondaga Lake at the West Shore 
Trail.







Oswego County






     11/25: 30 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in flight at Selkirk Shores State Park 
on Lake Ontario. 3 CACKLING GEESE and an ICELAND GULL were seen at Oswego 
Harbor.

     11/28: 2 BLACK SCOTERS and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen at Oswego 
Harbor.

     11/30: A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at the Sandy Pond outlet to Lake Ontario. 
A RED-THROATED LOON was captured away from water north of Oneida Lake and 
successfully released back into water at Brewerton.







Madison County






     11/30: A late COMMON GALLINULE was seen on Willey Road in Earlville. A 
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was found at the Madison County Landfill south of 
Canastota. A late WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was seen along Ditchbank Road north of 
Canastota. 







Oneida County






     11/25: A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen at the Spring Farm Nature 
Sanctuary south of Clinton.

     11/26: An adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at Verona Beach State Park 
on the east end of Oneida Lake. It was seen again of the 30th.







Herkimer County

     11/26: A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen at the Industrial Park area of Little

Hello CBC Coordinators! 

 

CBC season starts a week from Saturday!Many thanks to those
who have already sent me the information about your count.
If you're not sure whether you sent it in, you can check
http://www.nybirds.org/ProjCBC.htm to see if it's been
posted. We maintain a simple CBC calendar on the NYSOA
website to encourage as many people as possible to
participate in Audubon's annual Christmas Bird Count citizen
science project.

 

All I need is the following information, which you can send
by simply replying to this email. Alternatively, you can
fill out the form on the NYSOA website at any time - go to
http://www.nybirds.org/ProjCBC.htm and click on the link in
the turquoise-colored box at the top of the page.
