This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of December 05, 2022 Highlights: --- SANDHILL CRANE TUNDRA SWAN ROSS’S GOOSE CACKLING GOOSE GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE GREEN-WINGED TEAL AMERICAN WIGEON BLACK VULTURE RED-SHOULDERED HAWK ICELAND GULL LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL MERLIN FOX SPARROW EVENING GROSBEAK PINE SISKIN Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) 12/11: 6 SANDHILL CRANES linger at the Visitor’s Center. Cayuga County 12/6: A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen on Irwin Road in the Town of Sterling. Oswego County 12/8: A FOX SPARROW was seen at Rice Creek field station south of Oswego. 84 TUNDRA SWANS were seen at 3 Mile bay on the north shore of Oneida lake. Onondaga County 12/7: A MERLIN was spotted at Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton. 12/9: An AMERICAN WIGEON and a GREEN-WINGED TEAL were still around at the Liverpool Marina on Onondaga Lake in Liverpool. 12/11: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Inner harbor at the south end of Onondaga Lake in Syracuse. A CACKLING GOOSE was seen on the Seneca River in Radisson. 12/12: 15 TUNDRA SWANS were seen at Oneida Shores park in Brewerton. Madison County 12/7: A ROSS’S GOOS first seen on the 5th. lingered through the 7th. 12/10: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, a CACKLING GOOSE and an ICELAND GULL were all seen from Lewis Point at the east end on Oneida Lake. 12/12: 48 EVENING GROSBEAKS linger at a feeder on Hawes Road on the Eaton Reservoir. Oneida County 12/7: 7 EVENING GROSBEAKS and 26 TUNDRA SWANS were seen from Lakeshore Road in North Bay on Oneida Lake. 12/8: An ICELAND GULL was seen from Sylvan Beach on Oneida lake. 12/9: A BLACK VULTURE was seen from Rt. 12 north of Waterville. A PINE SISKIN was seen at Coleman Mills in Rome.
