This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of April 03, 2022 Highlights ------------ RED-NECKED GREBE BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON GREAT EGRET CACKLING GOOSE SURF SCOTER EURASIAN WIGEON GLAUCOUS GULL SHORT-EARED OWL BLACK VULTURE SWAINSON’S HAWK GOLDEN EAGLE EVENING GROSBEAK Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma and Montezuma Wetlands Complex ---------- 4/5: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from East Road. 4/6: A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen from towpath Road. 4/7: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen from the Wildlife Drive. 4/8: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from the Visitor’s Center. An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen along the Wildlife Trail. A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen from Rt. 89 at Wilgoose Field. Oswego County ------------ 4/4: 5 SURF SCOTERS and a RED-NECKED GREBE were seen at Three Mile Bay WMA on the north shore on Oneida Lake. 4/5: A SWAINSON’S HAWK was seen at Derby Hill. 4/6: 2 BLACK VULTURES were seen from Rt. 481 just south of Oswego. 4/7: A LITTLE GULL was seen in a flock of Bonaparte’s Gulls From Three Mile Bay. A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen from Derby Hill on Lake Ontario. 4/9: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen at Derby Hill. Onondaga County ------------ 4/7: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen near the duck on Smokey Hollow Road at the Three Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville. 4/9: 23 RED CROSSBILLS were seen at Shakham Road in the Morgan Hill State Forest. Madison County ------------ 4/6: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen at Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. 4/7: A BLACK VULTURE was seen from Souter Road near Chittenango. 4/9: 10 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen on Paradise Hill Road near DeRuyter. Oneida County ------------ 4/7: A BLACK VULTURE wa seen at an abandoned barn on Rt. 49 just south of Rome. It was seen again on the 9th. 4/10: 4 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen from Rt. 8 south of Cassville.
