Longspur at Shawangunk Grasslands NWR in Ulster County. The bird was
watched running through clumps of grass and it was flushed twice and

The highlights of today’s tape are SABINE’S GULL, LONG-TAILED JAEGER,
WHITE-FACED IBIS, SANDWICH and ARCTIC TERNS, AMERICAN AVOCET, MANX
SHEARWATER, WHIMBREL, and CASPIAN TERN
Tom Burke, Andrew Baksh and I spent 5 hours on the flats today. Our
highlights were two Arctic Terns, one first summer and one second summer.
There were four Roseate Terns as well, with a smattering of expected
shorebirds including the lingering Western Willet. Ocean watching was
not productive.
Relative to recent Shearwater posts, belatedly from Saturday the
composition of Shearwaters off Dune Road was similar to the prior
Wednesday. At Cupsogue County Park there were at least six Cory's
Shearwaters milling about in the feeding flocks of Terns and Gulls, and one
Great Shearwater was

Greetings
The Marbled Godwit flew out directly east at 9 am. The Avocet is still
here. Stilt, White-rumped, Pectoral and other usual Sandpipers are here,
(five Pectoral Sandpipers came in as a group and just flew out) ,and 2
Gull-billed Terns (adult and immature hawking insects on the algae mat).

A Wilson's Phalarope is in northwest corner of east pond now, next to a
Stilt Sandpiper.

Two Buff-Breasted Sandpipers, one Baird's Sandpiper, a dozen American
Golden Plovers, a few Least Sandpipers and a bunch of Killdeer are
on the field. Look for mailbox 7165 on the east side of Bridge Lane north
of Middle Road in Cutchogue.
