[nysbirds-l] Vesper Sparrow
I spotted the Vesper Sparrow in All Faith Cemetery in Middle Village again this afternoon. I first saw it Wednesday but was unable to relocate it yesterday. It has moved to a new location and is now near the General Slocum memorial, along the paved road that is blocked off to traffic. Also seen today were good numbers of both types of Nuthatches and Kinglets, a Pine Warbler, Coopers and RT Hawk, and countless Yellow Rumped and Palm Warblers. A photo of the Vesper Sparrow as seen today has been posted here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/darylcav/8081172589/in/photostream -- Daryl Cavallaro -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[nysbirds-l] Queens Vesper Sparrow
Early Wednesday afternoon I saw a Vesper Sparrow at All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village. As I approached it I also flushed a Wilson's Snipe. Both birds were located in the flat area about halfway between the the Christ the King parking lot and the train tracks to the south. During a brief visit on Tuesday I saw a Juvenile Blue Grosbeak which appeared to be a different individual than the one that I had seen several times in late September. Also present on Tuesday were a mature White Crowned Sparrow, Purple Finch, Field Sparrow, a few Pine Siskins, a Blue Headed Vireo, and a female Indigo Bunting. A few shots of some of these, including the Vesper Sparrow are located here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/darylcav/ -- Daryl Cavallaro -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
Re:[nysbirds-l] Connecticut Warbler in Queens
I have posted a couple of photos of the COWA and BLGR. The Grosbeak appears to be the same one I spotted on Friday. http://www.flickr.com/photos/darylcav/sets/72157631606921350/ Other notable birds today were a Nashville Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, two Red Breasted Nuthatches, a female Indigo Bunting, and a Peregrine Falcon. [nysbirds-l] Queens Blue Grosbeak
I saw a Blue Grosbeak this afternoon in All faiths Cemetery on Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village. It was hard to see as it stayed hidden in the bushes, but it was very vocal. It was in the most overgrown section along the fence near the train tracks on the southern side of the cemetery. There are a couple of shots I took through the vegetation at the top of the page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/darylcav/ -- Daryl Cavallaro -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[nysbirds-l] Grasshopper Sparrow in Queens
Around 4 PM today I spotted a Grasshopper Sparrow at All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village. It was in virtually the same spot as one I saw last October. Unfortunately I flushed it before I had seen it, and as a result could only get a few lousy extreme long distance shots of it. It then disappeared into the long grass in an unmown area of the cemetery. I tried to relocate it, however the gates close at 5 so I didn't have much time. The bird was in the area directly adjacent to the Christ The King high school parking lot. here is a link to a bad photo of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/darylcav/7179194704/in/photostream -- Daryl Cavallaro -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
