the end of Arden Avenue on the south shore of the island. There is a regular
lesser black-backed gull there also.

Just had a Northern Bobwhite scampering along the side of Old Montauk highway
just before the entrance to Hither Hills State Park. Ran back into the
shrubbery as my car past it at 50 mph.

afternoon (sorry, didnt have phone or watch on me). Lots of birders. A few let
me see through their scopes. Many thanks.

Looking at one of the Ruff right now from a spit just south of the North Island
on the north end of the East Pond. Entered via the northwest corner and worked
our way just a few hundred yards down and there he was, right across the water.

An adult Mississippi Kite just made two brief appearances over the royal oak
section of Clove Lakes Park on Staten Island. Saw it once flying north and
another time flying south so it may be sticking around.
Also had a very late Hermit Thrush in the same general area.

Spotted the YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT this afternoon at 12pm while standing on the
NY Public Library patio, above the "lawn", looking down at the shrubs. From my
perch, I had point-blank looks at the bird foraging silently below. It would
not have been visible from the street.

The ROSS' GOOSE was present at the edge of the driving range's lawn at Brooklyn
Golf Center, just across the street from Floyd Bennett Field this afternoon
through 5pm in the fading light.
It was hanging out with 17 Canadas. I pulled into the golf center's parking

The Dickcissel was still present at the Boat Basin parking lot this afternoon
through 2:30pm, foraging in the bushes just past the restrooms with a flock of
House Sparrows. Further down, there were no shorebirds present on the spit,
although I heard a report of good numbers of Dunlin,

at least 50 Common Nighthawks were a nice consolation, though.

The Hooded was present on the beach near the jetty at around 7pm today. The
Boneparte's Gulls continued at the point as well.

Just had the Hooded Crow with a few other birders at 1:30pm in the parking lot
at Crookes Point. The bird seems content in the area even amidst the constant
flow of mockingbirds harassing it. I even witnessed a Laughing Gull having a
problem with it.
Conversation with a pair of joggers that
I arrived at Captree around 12:10pm to a small group of birders already on
the Common Ground Dove, which was giving good views. The group dispersed at
12:25 and I was left viewing the bird alone until 12:35 when it took off,
flying up over my head and across the parking lot, eventually
I apologize to any readers of my last post who found my report ambiguous. The
Prothonotary Warbler I was referring to is the bird that has been being seen
recently in front of the NY Public Library on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. Hope
this clears things up.

Staten Island, the following birds can be seen rather easily in well under a
single day:

of birds including 15 species of shorebird, highlighted by a single WHIMBREL.
Besides the Whimbrel, good numbers of the usuals especially B..B. Plovers,
Yellowlegs and Semipalmated Sandpipers. Also 15 Red
