Glorious morning in West Hills County Park, or as I call it, the Roof of Long Island. A dozen species of warblers plus 11 other assorted species. The best looks were at the trailhead in the thin air high atop Jayne's Hill (elev. 400 ft.), where the birds were nearly at eye level, and at the

Quick walk around the Saltmarsh Nature Trail this morning. Would have liked to be there a little earlier in the tide cycle, but still saw a trio of willets and a clapper rail stalking through the spartina grass. Also had 6 species of sparrow: house, white-throated, song, swamp, field, and

I was in Prospect Park for a family picnic today and there was a barnacle goose swimming around the southwest part of the lake. A quick perusal of the NYSBIRDS-L archive turned up that this goose was sighted way back in late Oct. in the same location but I didn't see any references to it on

Wow. What a fantastic morning in Prospect Park. Three of us from CUNY started at Grand Army Plaza at 8:00 and were rewarded with two special birds right away. There was a Cape May warbler in the conifers behind the Stranahan statue and a Philadelphia vireo not far away in the underbrush.

The greater white-fronted goose was not at Gerry Park this morning in Roslyn. Lots of mallards, gadwalls, and hooded mergansers though. It was high tide in Cold Spring Harbor when I made a brief stop. Lots of stuff close to shore, notably a horned grebe maybe ten feet from the boat launch.
