[nysbirds-l] Croton Point: morning sightings & assistance sought

2012-12-03 Thread Anne Swaim
Morning spent birding at Croton Point Park in Westchester County offered some
nice highlights including: 330+ Snow Geese on high flyover heading SE at 9:50
am, a Peregrine Falcon bathing in large puddle by ball field before entrance,
large Am. Pipit flock (42 seen today) continuing on landfill, and 38+ Eastern
Bluebirds including 32 in one flock together.

However, the negative habitat effects from the severe and poorly-timed mowing
of the landfill remains a disappointment.

Responses off list are sought for technical and political assistance as Saw
Mill River Audubon and other interested groups seek to work together in
advocating for a management plan that recognizes Croton Point's significance as
an Important Bird Area.
