Re: [nysbirds-l] ADMIN: Four-Letter Abbreviations

2012-12-19 Thread Richard Zaineldeen

Hello, Everyone.

I fully agree with this concept of using the full name of the species when
reporting bird sightings.
The purpose of NYSBIRDS-L is to pass along information. If any individual can't
decipher the Four-Letter abbreviations (and sometimes I have had to think hard
about what species is actually being reported) then it is to the detriment of
the birding community as a whole. HAHH!

Good afternoon,

I have received a number of complaints over the past few weeks concerning the
increasing use of four-letter abbreviations of bird species being reported in
postings to NYSbirds-L.

Out of consideration for most of the recipients on this eList, please do not
use abbreviated bird names when you make your postings. This only adds to the
confusion, both to readers who are subscribed to this eList and to those who
are browsing any of the Web archives.

By spelling out the names of the bird species being reported in postings to
NYSbirds-L, this will eliminate all possible confusion and misunderstanding.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me off-list.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Chris T-H
