[nysbirds-l] Black Terns at Jones Beach

2019-08-22 Thread Steve Walter
I may have caught something in the way of a Black Tern movement at Jones Beach today. From 12:20 to 1:00, I observed 6 individuals (1 or 2 at a time) moving westward through the channel, heading toward Jones Inlet. The observation point was where the Brown Pelican was first being seen two weeks ago

[nysbirds-l] Black Terns, Cupsogue (ocean side only)

2017-08-20 Thread GQ
About 6 to 8 Black Terns fairly close to shore today while I was lounging with the family at Cupsogue CP, between 11AM and 2PM. I tended to see them whenever I opened my eyes, so I get the feeling there were probably more. Glenn Quinn Hauppauge, NY -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastB

I stopped at Squires Pond (east landing road) and there are around 50 terns on the beach - most appear to be conning but at least 2 black terns and 1 juv skimmer. There are likely other rarities here but I'm Unfamiliar with pelagics so if anyone is nearby take a look. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: h
