Hi All,
After forwarding that initial report, I went into the park as well.
No tanager, but had good views of the female-type Baltimore Oriole
visiting the feeders.  Was told that this bird has been around for
several days, either at the Evodia feeders or at those in the
Maintenance Meadow.

I was just in touch with two birders who were present at the initial
sighting.  One is still pretty sure he had a Western Tanager, based on
the bird's face and bill; the other is no longer sure, since the bird
was feeding on the ground and he did not have a good look at the head
or bill.  In the Sibley guide, plumage for pale female adult Western
and drab first year Baltimore are quite similar, so I can see how one
could make a mistake.
