I birded JBWR this morning beginning just after sunrise. Highlights
included the continuing* EARED GREBE*, seen from the West Pond trail near
bench 7 as it drifted South West in Pumpkin Channel/Bay. This Grebe was
also seen late yesterday afternoon with Tom Burke and Gail Benson. An
*AMERICAN
BITTERN* flew south while I was at the Big John's overlook and I managed
one quick (poor but diagnostic) photo as the bird flew into the light.
Several *CANVASBACK DUCKS* were mixed in with the raft of Scaup and Ruddy
Ducks on the West Pond.

Winter hardy birds included: *Great Egret*, seen from the West Pond Trail,
flying into the marsh near the Osprey platform and then later seen feeding
near the West Pond edges. 2 *Golden-crowned Kinglets *made their presence
known in the South Gardens. Unlike the Captree CBC Catbirds, a rather
uncooperative *Gray Catbird* gave brief looks in the North Gardens and a *Brown
Thrasher* that I managed to get a look at after working the garden over on
the East Pond for a bit.

Merry Christmas!
