[nysbirds-l] Marine Nature Study Area, Oceanside,NY
The MNSA was inundated during the weekend storm and high tide this morning (11:23 AM) will probably flood the paths. There’s still a problem in low areas along the South Shore. RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS are in full song. A nice start to the coming Spring season. A SALTMARSH SPARROW showed up on Saturday and was found this morning. We speculated whether it was displaced from neighboring areas by the high tides or an exceptionally early migrant. Marine Nature Study Area 13 Mar The first OSPREY of the season circled over the nest platform this morning before drifting over to the east. Both REDWINGS and COMMON GRACKLES frequented the feeders; Northern Cardinals and Song Sparrows were singing. All--in-all it's a start for spring. The LONG-EARED OWL found yesterday, in the rain, continued, deeply hidden and very skittish.
